About me as a therapist
I first started learning about attachment science in graduate school, and have been interested ever since. My primary focus and most of my training has been in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), an attachment-based relationship therapy, which I use with clients. I also supervise other couples therapists in EFCT, and regularly seek supervision of my own, because the learning never stops!
When working with individual clients, I often use and draw from my training in Level I Brainspotting, a trauma-informed, experiential therapy. Additionally, I am currently pursuing Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training to supplement my work with individual clients. I enjoy helping individual clients clarify their growth-oriented goals, organize their emotional experiences, and learn from the valuable data that emotion provides. I enjoy helping them get still with their emotional experiences in order to learn about what they need to heal, grow, and flourish in life.
All the work I do is informed in part by professional training, and in part by my personal experience as a client in trauma-focused therapy. I know that healing and growth are fostered by a safe, caring therapeutic relationship, and I seek to foster that with each of my clients.
About me as a person
I was born to an American dad and an English mom, and hold dual citizenship as a British-American. My family lived in West Africa when I was small, and we moved to North Carolina when I was six. I love all things travel and exploration, and revel equally in the beauty of basilicas, busy city parks, and quiet villages. I love the natural world, and feel at home in the forest. I value movement, relationships, learning and growing. If there is a campfire to be made, I’ll happily build it. A run with friends on a crisp, late spring evening, there’s nothing finer. I am endlessly curious about people, and feel lucky to work with clients in a deep way.
